Just... [how to put this.] I know this might be hard to understand, but it's important. You asked him to test those needles on you, but no one else there was willing to see you go through that kind of danger. Offering to hurt yourself for other people is something I know you've been talked to about, but the fact that someone would take you up on it is important to pay attention to, too.

I'm not sure what he was thinking. I had the impression he didn't want to hurt you, either. At least, he seemed most resistant to the idea. And then in a corner, he suddenly appeared to change his mind. I don't think I know him well enough to speculate about what was in his head.
