... There's all those places out there and you didn't want to see if you could see them? [she's not judgmental, just curious.]

I wanted to! I wanted nothing more than to visit all the stars in the galaxy.

[ He wanted to become an astronaut. He wanted to learn all about space. He wanted to grow up and touch the "infinite possibilities" that the stars represented for him.

But he didn't.

He couldn't. ]

Anyways, I was thinking that if you had space travel, you could visit all the stars for me! You wouldn't be able to see them all even if you had thousands and thousands of ears, and you'll never be tired of them because there's always something new to see!

she's quiet for a second, just watching him, and then:]

But I'd be alone the whole time.

No you won't? You'll have a whole space crew, and there's all those other people you'll meet out there.

[sharkgirl]

[she rubs at her neck.]

... I don't know if that's how it'd be for me, but it's cool that you think so.

[hanaban]

Don't underestimate the complexity of space shuttles! You're going to need a crew, whether you like it or not.

[she makes a face at him, but.]

Yeah, yeah, okay. I'll look into it for you, alright? But I think I could probably figure out a way to get you there too.

[hanaban]

[ Nimona gets a complicated smile for that, grateful and incredulous, like it pains him not to get his hopes up ]

...I'd like that.

[ If only it were possible. ]

[she knows it might not be possible, and she knows it's one of those things she shouldn't promise, especially because if this just ends with everybody going home, well. she won't get to follow up on that promise. but. she does it anyway.

she reaches out a hand? come back up and sit with her. they can look at the stars for a bit.]

[ He takes her hand like it's as natural as breathing— which, it wasn't for him, until he came here. But it is now: holding hands, bumping shoulders, looking up at the stars that once again glimmers like hope. ]
