The question should've taken him by surprise, but it doesn't. He's quiet for a moment, definitely contemplating lying at first, but the moment passes and so does his chance. If Nimona really doesn't care, though... if she won't tell... if she's like him and cares about people she likes over people she doesn't, doesn't care about the reason...

He's quiet, but he lifts his eyes to meet Nimona's, and his voice is steady when he speaks. ]

[a little nod. she kind of just smiles at him a little.]

[she shifts, and reaches to take his hand.]

[ The smile does little to reassure him— it makes him more confused, actually, mostly because he's more used to tirades of "murder bad killing evil". That, and he'd been steeling himself for having to explain why. ]

[ For Hanako, at least, he was indifferent. They'd never really talked. It's the only reason why he could do it. ]
