[ oooooooooooohhh my god. Without the voiceover context, Hanako grips the edges of the panel, entirely engrossed in watching Reigen lay waste to his opponents even though every fiber of his being screams to get away or he'll be ripped apart like a cobweb in the breeze. ]
he loves this kind of attention way too much. maybe the apple thing was mostly teasing hanako, but at a certain point he also just clearly wanted a little kid to think he was cool and that's really sad.
but he also has conflicted feelings here, because he is trying not to do this anymore, but isn't trying hard enough that he can just explain the misunderstanding. clearing his throat.]

I think a lot of things can qualify. You can do a lot of strange and unusual things, but at the end of the day you have to acknowledge that you are part of society. Not above other people or set apart. Having to obey the basic rules of human interaction.

well, in a way, this doesn't even surprise him necessarily. it was always very obvious that something extremely bad had been going on in this kid's life for him to wind up acting this way. it's hard not to relate to the feeling of hanako's teacher, seeing all of this and also knowing that you are so out of your depth on this one.
