[ can't wait to see their grandma quilt. it's going to be less of a flag and more of a sail at this rate ]

Yeah, I want to see! I didn't think you'd know how to sew.

[sharkgirl]

It's not that hard. I'm not good at it but I can do it.

[holds out her hand to him so she can lead him off to the beach]

I've just been pinning them to the wall for now but that's a good idea, actually, to put them all together.

[hanaban]

[ he takes her hand, laces their fingers ]

If you're setting off to sea, braving storms and dangerous sea monsters, you'd better get good at sewing! You're flying everybody's hopes and dreams. You wouldn't want them to blow away.

[sharkgirl]

I guess so. [she says, grinning. she brings their hands up to shake them a little back and forth.] What's yours gonna look like, then?

[hanaban]

My hopes and dreams...? Hmm...

[ It would've been the moon, if he didn't think Nimona or somebody else would set it on fire on sight. The stars, maybe, all the places he's never been and never will. Dinosaurs, robots, monsters of all sorts he used to love as a little kid, fascinated as he was in the impossible. ]

...I don't know. I want to see the people I love be alive and happy. But I don't know how to depict that.

[sharkgirl]

[she thinks about that, wandering along.]

I don't know either. Maybe... hands holding hands. [she glances at him.] A bunch of hands reaching for the stars?

[that's a little creepy but she's got the spirit.]

[hanaban]

Hands are too hard to draw.

[ dino claws? easy. hands? a nightmare ]

Cat paws. [8D?]

[hanaban]

The only cat paws here are yours.

[ this is his hopes and dreams they're talking about, get your own ]

[wow you scorn miette's helpful ideas jail for hanako for a thousand years]

Well, you're not coming up with anything, so someone's gotta be the brains around here.

[hanaban]

[ he'd deserve it ]

That's because I wanted to go with the moon, but everybody here hates it.

[sharkgirl]

Well, yeah, because all that guy talks about is how he's totally going to have the moon punish us because we didn't do what he wanted us to do.

Don't let some melodramatic babyman ruin your moon dreams. Do whatever you want.

[hanaban]

[ they did do what the moon wanted them to do, though? hanako helped ]

Nimona, your crew is going to mutiny and burn down your ship if they saw a moon flag. That's not worth it- I'll think of something else.

[sharkgirl]

My crew will not mutiny, wow. [nyeh] Whatever it is you can hang it wherever you want on the boat.

[speaking of which - it is just chilling on the beach where they haphazardly parked it! it's nothing fancy, it's like. a cargo ship, essentially. the cabin is where she's got all her flags pinned - there's only two right now, but it's a start.]

Who's even in your crew?

[ they'll mutiny. that's the fun in being a pirate.

he does pull Nimona along, though, when the ship comes into sight, eager to see whether she'd managed to blackmail Temenos into any cannons yet. what are these flags, what's on them ]

[sharkgirl]

Saya, for sure. You, if you want. I haven't asked anybody else.

[she has not blackmailed him yet because things got crazy before she could but! the first flag is a black flag with a skull and crossbones, but the teeth are sharp and jagged like a shark's, it has dragon wings, and fire in the eyeholes. all of it is colored pink. the second one is a sunset in these colors with a very simple blue line to represent a wave underneath for the background, and then a sort of stylized (not great) pink shark instead of the usual skull. the crossbones are still the same though. this one is really. messy, and has pink splatters all over it, but it's the thought that counts.

she adjusts ace's hat when she looks at the both of them with a little smile.]

[ he tears his eyes away from the flags to give nimona an incredulous look ]

Huh? What about Tama? Or Nico?

[ nimona's 78359094203 friends???? ]

[sharkgirl]

[she glances at him like ???]

They're all going back to their own worlds? [so obviously they can't be part of her crew...]

[hanaban]

And you're just going to let them?

[ didn't he also say he was going back? ]

[sharkgirl]

... I mean, I don't know what else you expect me to do. Nobody's asked me to go with them.

[her expression is a little fuzzy here for some reason. weird.]

[hanaban]

[ he opens his mouth for a moment because, like, he'd invite Nimona to his world if he thought it'd be any fun, but not only would the two of them not be able to hang out, Nimona's likely to get exorcised by the student body president on sight ]

...what sort of place do you want to go?

[sharkgirl]

[this is sweet of him anyway, because she'd appreciate not being exorcised immediately.

a pause, as she kind of frowns, rubbing at her temple. and then:]

I don't know. A place where I'm not... [a beat.] A place where I'm not the only one like me.

[hanaban]

[ hmm... that's tough. he isn't sure of a place where there are others like nimona and it's the norm. he knows somebody who can shift into a fox, but it's just the one creature and she's not pink. ]

...I don't know either. But I know you'll find it, whether that's in a pirate ship or a space ship, you'll find the place that makes you happy.

[ there's infinite stars in the sky. one of them will light the place she calls home ]

[sharkgirl]

[there's a pause, and she kind of gives him a small smile. something like - yeah, okay, if you say so.]

It's fine if I don't. I'm sick of going places I'm not wanted. [there's something that feels... wrong, about that, though, and she's not sure why.]

... Maybe it'll be better with Saya coming along, I don't know, I just don't want her to be shunned, too.
